Jocky Milne’s Croft
This traditional stone croft is hidden away in a forest clearing, with breathtaking views over the trees to the River Deveron Valley and distant Grampian Highlands. It’s a great place to getaway from it all, relax and unwind in one of the most romantic highland cottages. The setting makes it feel isolated, although it’s only six miles from the nearest town Huntly.
The Interior
The cottage has a double bedroom with king size bed and en-suite bathroom, where you can watch the roe deer and hares grazing in the clearing as you unwind in the bath. The beamed living room has everything you need to relax in comfort; curl up with a book in front of the wood burning stove, watch a movie on the new Sony Bravia 32″ LCD TV or turn your favourite music up as loud as you want (there are no neighbours)! If you fancy a change of scene, you can climb up the step ladder stairs to the reading loft which overlooks the living room. The holiday cottage’s kitchen is well equipped and has a dishwasher and fridge freezer.
Wedding Accommodation
Many couples who are married at Aswanley choose to spend their first days of their honeymoon at Jocky Milne’s. We can arrange flowers, champagne and chocolates to be left at the holiday cottage for your arrival, or a breakfast basket so you don’t need to go to the supermarket. Just let us know.
Walking & Cycling
You can explore the wild area of open grassland and deciduous trees that surround the holiday cottage. There are longer walks from the cottage which can take you up into the Highlands or down towards the River Deveron; next to the graveyard at Wallakirk is a beautiful place to go wild swimming. It’s a scramble down the bank but well worth the odd nettle sting!
Route maps of six short local cross country routes are available on arrival at the cottage (from a 2km walk – 12 km ride). There is good road riding from the cottage; a favourite is a 24 mile loop (with 500m of climbing) towards Dufftown, then to the Cabrach and back to Glass. Nearby, in the Cabrach, there are 4 new waymarked walking and cross-country routes (8 miles away) and the nearest purpose built mountain bike trails are at Moray Monster Trails (20 miles away) and Glenlivet Estate near Tomintoul (29 miles).
