Wedding FAQS
What is the Scottish government’s current guidance on weddings post pandemic?
Please find the Scottish government guidance here.
Can you get married outside at Aswanley?
If you would like an outdoor wedding, getting married in Scotland gives you choice. Scottish Law allows couples to get married virtually anywhere as long as the ceremony is conducted by a religious official, registrar or recognised humanistic celebrant. A popular place is the barn lawn which has a wonderful view down the River Deveron valley. Scottish weather is known for it’s unpredictability, so having the fireplace room as a backup gives people peace of mind!
Will there be other events at the venue on our wedding day?
No, only your wedding.
Are there any time constraints?
For the ceremony: you can get married at whatever time you like. We find that a 2pm ceremony works well as this leaves a nice gap for drinks, canapes and photographs, but not too long that people are get tired standing.
For the reception: The bar closes at 12.30am latest. Everyone, including the band, should have left the venue by 1am.
Is the space accessible?
Yes, there are multiple accessible entrances to the barn. The doors from the fireplace room onto the river terrace have a small ramp. We also have an accessible toilet.
Are there noise restrictions?
No – there’s no chance of disturbing the neighbours – there aren’t any!
How will your in house wedding co-ordinators help?
Rachael and Claire are here to help as much or as little as you would like throughout the planning process – from a suggestion for a supplier to advice on table layouts and everything in between.
When is the balance payment due?
The balance is due 3 months before the wedding. Aswanley will send you the balance invoice a few weeks prior to this. It can either be paid by bank transfer or by cheque.
When do I need to confirm my drinks requirements?
Aswanley require confirmation of wine and reception/toast drinks 3 weeks before your wedding. This will be invoiced, to be paid in advance of the wedding. If you buy your drinks from Aswanley list, any unopened bottles will be credited into stock and you will be refunded.
Can I supply my own drinks?
Yes, you can supply your own wine and champagne subject to £6 corkage per bottle. We can arrange corkage for beers or spirits on request or we are really happy to order in specific beers or spirts for you. Our standard bar list includes a wide range of gins, whiskies, spirits and Peroni as the draught beer.
When can I have access to the venue to set up?
You are welcome to come to Aswanley on the day before your wedding between 10am to 5pm to personalise the venue if there is no event happening that day. If there is an event, we will put your decorations in place on the morning of your wedding. We can also arrange a day for you to do a mock set up or rehearsal in the week leading up to your wedding.
