What is the current Scottish government’s guidance on weddings ?
Please find the Scottish government guidance here.
What measures have you put in place to keep guests safe?
We have been working hard to put all the extra measures in place to keep us safe whilst retaining the unique ambience and aesthetic of Aswanley. We have set up an information page for guests with all you need to know about attending a wedding during the current pandemic.
In addition, we are offering a complimentary and full managed live streaming service so you can share your ceremony with absent friends and family. The stream will start 15 minutes before the ceremony and last until the end of the service.
Can you get married outside at Aswanley?
If you would like an outdoor wedding, getting married in Scotland gives you choice. Scottish Law allows couples to get married virtually anywhere as long as the ceremony is conducted by a religious official, registrar or recognised humanistic celebrant. Popular places at Aswanley are on the lawn next to the fortified house, or in front of the barn looking down the River Deveron valley. Scottish weather is known for it’s unpredictability, so having the fireplace room in the barn as a backup gives people peace of mind!
Under the current Coronavirus restrictions, guests do not have to wear masks for an outdoor ceremony.
Will there be other events at the venue on our wedding day?
No, you have exclusive use of the venue on the day of your wedding.
Are there any time constraints?
For the ceremony: you can get married at whatever time you like. We find that a 2pm ceremony works well as this leaves a nice gap for drinks, canapes and photographs, but not too long that people are get tired standing.
In accordance with current Coronavirus restrictions everyone must leave Aswanley by 10pm. Last orders will be at 9.30pm. Please pre book your taxi home!
Is the space accessible?
Yes, there are multiple accessible entrances to the barn. The doors from the fireplace room onto the river terrace have a small ramp. We also have an accessible toilet.
Are there noise restrictions?
No – there’s no chance of disturbing the neighbours – there aren’t any!
How will your in house wedding co-ordinators help?
Lauren, Sarah and Lucy are here to help as much or as little as you would like throughout the planning process – from a suggestion for a supplier to advice on table layouts and everything in between.
When is the balance payment due?
The balance is due 3 months before the wedding. Aswanley will send you the balance invoice a few weeks prior to this. It can either be paid by bank transfer or by cheque. We are taking a flexible approach in light of the current situation and are letting people reschedule free of charge.
When do I need to confirm my drinks requirements?
Aswanley require confirmation of wine and reception/toast drinks 3 weeks before your wedding. This will be invoiced, to be paid in advance of the wedding. Any unopened bottles will be credited into stock and you will be refunded.
Can I supply my own drinks?
Yes, you can supply your own wine and champagne subject to £5 corkage per bottle. However, no beers or spirits can be brought in but we are really happy to order in specific beers or spirts for you. Our standard bar list includes a wide range of gins, whiskies, spirits and Peroni as the draught beer.
When can I have access to the venue to set up?
You are welcome to come to Aswanley on the day before your wedding between 10am to 5pm to personalise the venue if there is no event happening that day. If there is an event, we will put your decorations in place on the morning of your wedding. We can also arrange a day for you to do a mock set up or rehearsal in the week leading up to your wedding.
What are the measurements of the rectangular tables?
Each table is 4ft by 2ft6inches (2ft 5.5 inches to the ground).
What are the dimensions of the dining room and ballroom?
The carpeted dining area measures 24ft x 67ft. The ballroom measures 31ft x 67ft.
Do you provide linen?
Aswanley does not provide tablecloths or napkins. These can usually be supplied by your caterer.
Do you allow confetti?
Confetti is allowed as long as it is bio degradable and only used outdoors.
Do you allow fireworks?
We do allow fireworks although we are limited to 3 displays per year at a charge of £200. Aswanley must be notified three months in advance which company you are using. We require that the company provide a qualified technician and have Public Liability Insurance.
When can I collect my belongings after the wedding, for example any decorations?
Personal items can be collected the day after the wedding between 9am- 12.30pm. Our cleaning staff will have gathered most of it into one area to make collection easier. Anything hung from the rafters or on the wheels will need to be taken down by yourselves.
What is the cancellation policy?

On receipt of cancellation Aswanley shall release the date and attempt to secure another booking. If the date is successfully resold Aswanley will refund the Client’s deposit, less a £500 cancellation fee.
