Your ceremony can be held indoors or outdoors to suit the style of your day. Religious, humanist, civil ceremonies and partnerships can all be conducted at Aswanley.
A socially distanced ceremony
Although this is probably not what you initially planned, small weddings can be beautiful. We have worked hard to put all the extra measures in place to keep guests safe whilst retaining the unique ambience and aesthetic of Aswanley. We can host micro wedding ceremonies in the Fireplace room for 20 guests or in the Ballroom for more guests if restrictions allow. Guests need to wear face coverings indoors; outdoors they don’t and we have a diverse selection of exterior spaces – from the ancient arch and garden lawns to the terrace in front of the barn.
You can share your wedding ceremony with guests remotely via our YouTube channel. The service is complimentary and fully managed by the team at Aswanley. Our venue manager Lauren is closely monitoring the ever changing situation and will be on hand to offer advice or help to adapt your wedding to meet new restrictions.
If you would like to have your ceremony indoors then there are two options: the fireplace room and the ballroom. The fireplace room is an airy space that can seat up to 132 guests with wooden beams and a beautiful baronial fireplace. The ballroom is a longer space, with lower wooden beams, that can fit up to 250 people. Many couples use our moongate to create a dreamy space for their vows at the end of the barn.
Outdoor ceremonies can take place on the lawn outside the barn or in the Aswanley gardens. A popular place for couples to exchange their vows is under the old ash tree at the front of the house. You can choose how you would like to layout your ceremony – we’ve had all sorts of different arrangements in the garden. It can be followed by a champagne reception in the garden or back in the barn. Of course, the weather plays a big part in outdoor weddings! If the ceremony is unable to go ahead in the garden, then we will relocate to the fireplace room.
Escape into the hills for the most intimate of weddings. The Shepherds Hut has a wood burning stove, rustic pine interior and enough room for eight people. We can host ceremonies of all denominations in the hut and if it’s just the two of you, then we can also provide witnesses.
For those who would like a church service, there is a Roman Catholic Church in Huntly, six miles away, or St Andrews Glass is just down the road. It has stopped operating as a Church of Scotland parish church so you can use a celebrant of your choice and arrange the service as you wish. There is a fee involved in opening up the church. Let us know if you are interested in this option and we’ll put you in touch with the right person.
